Metastable austenitic high strength stainless steel (MAHSS) is an ideal alternative material for automotive frame with features of high strength, lightweight, cost effectiveness and safety performance. The proposed research aims to conduct novel forming simulation and performance investigation on automotive frame application of the MAHSS, to understand the cracking failure and its mechanism, and then to apply the developed technology on BaoWu Desheng production line. The systematic research including steel rolling, subsequent auto frame manufacturing and impact test of the welded part will be conducted. It will enhance the product quality and the market competitiveness of Baosteel’s MAHSS products worldwide.
