Aluminium application is fast growing in transport industries to improve vehicle performance and fuel economy. These critical applications may require high resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC), the degradation of mechanical properties under the combined action of stress and corrosive environment of the susceptible material. The aim of the research is to investigate the effects of alloying elements and microstructure on the susceptibility of high-performance aluminium alloys to SCC. Understanding mechanisms of SCC and effects of alloying elements and microstructure helps to mitigate the risk of SCC of aluminium alloys.
