  • Dr Qiyang Tan, The University of Queensland
  • Professor Mingxing Zhang, The University of Queensland
  • Dr Fan Zhang, Research Institute of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd

The overall aim of this project is to design and develop new carbide-free nanostructured bainitic steels with high strength and high toughness for structural and spring applications by meaning of machine learning and to investigate and understand the strengthening and toughening mechanisms. Upon successful completion of the project, new nano-bainitic steels for high-grade steel rods, heat-resistant reinforcement bars and leaf springs will be validated in laboratories and aiming to pass middle scale industry trial; optimized parameters for hot forming and heat treatment for various productions will be suggested; a steel database for design of new steels with desired properties will be built and associated machine learning programme will be formulated. Group to produce high value-add, high grade steel products.
