This project seeks to establish the influence of thermomechanical processing parameters and route on Ti alloys (a+b: TC4 and near-b: TC18) particularly the b-grain formation which has a huge influence on the subsequent microstructure and eventual mechanical properties. Subsequent heat treatment process for the Ti alloys will also be investigated mainly for the near-b Ti alloy. Key processing charts and tables will be developed which can be used to accelerate the design of production processes that not only delivers quality billet but efficiently as well. Much scientific findings from this work will lead also to many international journal publications but more significantly, new Ti alloy businesses will be garnered.
