Blast furnace (BF) has been confirmed to be an efficient reactor to produce high-quality hot metal for steelmaking. Coke is one of the major feeds for BF and a large amount of CO2 is generated in coke-making and BF processes. Use of pre-reduced iron ores made from clean reductants will reduce the consumption of coke in BF. The project will provide a deep understanding of the reduction mechanisms of iron ore at various conditions and performances of the pre-reduced iron ores in BF. The outcomes will directly support the development of a number of new ironmakingrelated techniques at Baowu Steel, such as Ferro-coke, HBI, COREX and oxygen blast furnace.
