The influences of surface oxidization, grinding conditions, lubrication during rolling, surface conditions of rolls on surface quality deterioration of stainless steels (including austenitic, ferritic and martensitic grades) during rolling are to be investigated for the purpose of understanding the deeper mechanisms. Effective control strategies in rolling process are to be developed, surface quality improved and cost reduced.
