Mark Hoffman is Dean of Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mech) and PhD (Materials Science) degrees from the University of Sydney. He has also held the UNSW roles of Pro Vice Chancellor Research (2013-5), Associate Dean Research for Science (2009-12) and Head of School of Materials Engineering (2007-12).

He has held research positions at the University of California, Berkeley, Tokyo Metropolitan University, the University of Technology, Darmstadt, Germany, and at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has published over 200 journal papers across a range of fields in materials science including nanocomposites and biomaterials and has supervised over 25 PhD students.

He has twice received the UNSW Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching; for undergraduate education and research supervision. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers.

He is a Fellow of the Australia Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and the Institute of Engineers. He was a past Board Member of the International Fracture Congress.
