Raceway operations at the lower part of a blast furnace (BF) affect furnace stability and cost considerably.  The project is to work with Baosteel to develop detailed understandings of the fundamentals governing multiphase flow and thermochemical behaviours, quantify the effects of key variables, and identify the optimal control strategies of the raceway operations at the lower part of BFs.  This will be achieved through the use of various advanced modelling techniques, detailed process analysis, and plant tests in a Baosteel BF.  The research outcomes such as models, knowledge, database and control strategies should be useful for the stable and low-cost BF practice at Baosteel.
