This project aims to develop a two-dimensional, slit-like microchannel membrane for ultrafast water permeation, and with high rejection of contaminants for highly efficient wastewater treatment and recycling. The proposed cost-effective and environmentally-benign membrane technology is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment and recycling, thus reducing the energy and fresh water consumption and environmental impact of the steel industry. The expected outcome of the collaborative research is a novel, scalable microporous channel membrane for energy-efficient wastewater treatment, producing significant economic, environmental and social benefits.
